Marc Vancanneyt

Marc Vancanneyt received the MSc degree in biology from Ghent University, Belgium, in 1984. Since that time, he has spent his scientific career in the Laboratory of Microbiology at the same university and received the PhD degree in 1991. In 1996, he started working as a scientific research manager at the BCCM™/LMG Bacteria Collection (hosted at the Laboratory of Microbiology). As a researcher, he has been active in three major domains: study of the fermentation metabolism of clostridia, yeast taxonomy, and bacterial taxonomy. In the latter domain, he obtained a very broad expertise and worked on the characterization of lactic acid bacteria, flavobacteria, pseudomonads, streptomycetes, caulobacters, coryneforms, bacilli, aeromonads, and several other taxa. He is author of 130 papers in international journals.
