Mario Scarpa

I started my training in Biomedical Research at the Department of Pharmacology at University of Naples “Federico II”, and I participated in studies in Regenerative Medicine at the Institute of Genetic and Biophysics (IGB) of Naples. After my master’s degree in Medical Biotechnology from the University of Naples “Federico II” I earned my PhD in Pharmacology and Molecular Medicine improving my skills and knowledge on the development of translational medicine and tumor plasticity, contributing significantly to forward preventive medicine, diagnostic and therapeutic applications to human diseases with a close contact between pre-clinical and clinical disciplines by an international PhD program between The Ohio State University and the University of Ferrara. From 2016 to 2020, my research program in the Department of Oncology of Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center at The University of Maryland in Baltimore is focused on signal transduction pathways in acute myeloid leukemia with Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD) and preclinical development of novel therapeutic approaches to AML. In particular, it is focused on the molecular mechanisms involved in AML and how they are regulated following drug treatment (Clinical Trials of FLT3 inhibitors in Phase 1 and 2). Currently, my research program is developed at the University of Bern and it is focused on signal transduction pathways and organoid core development in prostate cancer (PCa). Mainly my projects and skills are addressed to the preclinical development of novel therapeutic approaches and drug treatment. In the same time, I am part of Organoid Core Facility staff of university of Bern, in which the main goal is addressed the management of scientific/clinical projects of the different labs using the most modern techniques of tissue culture, molecular biology and clinical treatments.
