The Geochronology and Tracers group of the National Environmental Isotope Facility (formerly NIGL) at the BGS, specialises in the U-Th-Pb & U-series geochronology and radiogenic tracer isotope analyses of rocks and minerals by (MC/SC-)ICP-MS and TIMS.
My research focuses on high-spatial resolution analysis of materials using laser ablation and low-volume solution sample introduction. This is largely focussed around minerals such as zircon, monazite, apatite and rutiles but also carbonate and phosphate matrices.
An important part of this is the consideration of the uncertainty contribution from all parts of the analytical (and sample preparation) workflow. Much of my research focusses on this aspect and defining better practice for the appropriate quantification of LA-ICP-MS data.
