I am a public health researcher whose work seeks to improve mental health outcomes among vulnerable populations, especially youth with a developmental disability. At present, I am engaging in three major lines of work. First, I am working to understand the phenomenology, epidemiology, and treatment of mental health crises. Much of this work is focused on health service research, including evaluating the interplay between outpatient care, inpatient treatment, and emergency department use. I have also led the development of the Mental Health Crisis Assessment Scale, which is being deployed in several outpatient studies across the US. Second, I co-lead the informatics program at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, where we are accelerating measurement-based clinical care through the use of health information systems. Third, I have a developing interest in advancing public health through the lens of positive mental health and well-being.
