The primary goal of my research is to use evolutionary and ecological theory to help mitigate human disease. I approach research questions in this area using a combination of mathematical modelling, statistical modelling, bioinformatics and experiments. Some current questions my lab are addressing include: 1. Where and how should we deploy limited resources to mitigate AMR evolution? 2. How can we cheaply and ethically monitor the spread of AMR around the world? 3. How do inter-bacterial social interactions influence the evolution of AMR? 4. What determines microbiome composition, the host or the environment, and does the microbiome actually impact host fitness in the wild? 5. Can we use evolutionary theory to predict which members of the microbiome will be helpful or harmful to a host?
