Luisa Helguero

Luisa Helguero graduated in Biology by the University of Buenos Aires and completed a PhD degree in the area of hormonal carcinogenesis by the same institution. Immediately after, she began her Post-doc studies at Karolinska Institutet (KI), where she focused her studies in nuclear receptor biology and in the mammary gland and in breast cancer. Luisa worked at KI for 6 years, thereafter she moved to Portugal to begin her independent career. She was appointed Senior Scientist at Universidade de Aveiro and established her group at Mass Spectrometry Centre, she later obtained a tenured Assistant Professor position at the Department of Biomedicine also at Universidade de Aveiro. Since her graduation, she has published 40 papers in international peer review journals with an h-index of 20 and with over 1303 citations. She has received 2 awards from the Argentine National Academy of Medicine and one from the Argentine Clinical Research Society for work included in her PhD Thesis. In 2005, Luisa was awarded the David and Astrid Hagelén´s fellowship by Karolinska Institutet and in 2012, her group’s work was distinguished by the Portuguese Senology Society. Since 2015, Luisa Helguero is the Leader of the Hormones & Cancer group. Present interests include understanding how obesity and exercise influence different aspects of breast carcinogenesis, how adaptive stress responses contribute to therapy resistance and identifying the function of histone variant and isoform in epithelial cell differentiation For more information please visit: helguerolab.netonda.com
