Professor Elizabeth (Liz) LOBB PhD (Psychological Medicine), MAppSci (Behavioural Science), B.Adult Ed. (Community Education); Post Grad Dip Bereavement Counselling Liz Lobb is Professor of Palliative Care (Allied Health) at Calvary Health Care Kogarah and Chair of the Calvary Palliative and End of Life Care Research Institute. She is an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Notre Dame, Sydney and the Faculty of Health at the University of Technology, Sydney. Professor Lobb obtained her PhD in Psychological Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney. She has worked clinically as a bereavement counsellor and educator for 24 years. In addition, as a behavioural scientist, Liz has worked in psycho-oncology and palliative care research for 22 years. She has established national and international research collaborations and pursued independent multi-disciplinary clinical collaborations in oncology, haematology, cancer genetics and palliative care. This research has enhanced evidence based communication and psycho-social care across the cancer continuum from diagnosis, through treatment, remission and survivorship or relapse, palliative care and bereavement support for families and caregivers. Her research interests include doctor/patient communication; communication of prognosis in early and metastatic cancer; the process of genetic counselling in familial breast and ovarian cancer; dignity therapy; the unmet needs of patients with high grade gliomas and their carers; outcomes for bereaved carers in ovarian cancer; prolonged grief disorder and couple communication around end-of-life issues. Liz is a member of a number of strategic committees. She is an Executive member of the Palliative Care Network of the Agency for Clinical Innovation; a member of clinical trials research groups such as the Palliative Care Clinical Studies Collaborative (PaCCSC), the Psycho-oncology Co-operative Research Group and Co-operative Trials Group for Neuro-oncology (COGNO). She is a member of the International Work Group on Death Dying and Bereavement. Liz was awarded the Palliative Care NSW award for significant contribution to palliative care research in 2010. She was awarded an NH&MRC Australian Clinical Research Fellowship in 2003 and a University of Sydney PhD Faculty of Medicine Scholarship in 1998.
