Ligia Perez-Cruz

She holds a Ph.D. in Sciences in Geological Oceanography from UNAM. Her research focuses on the topics of Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, as well as the study of Impact Craters, Micropaleontology and Geochemistry. Since April 2017, she is Head of Oceanographic Platforms of UNAM, and President of Mexican Geophysical Unión (UGM) (2018-2019). From 2012 to March 2017 she was Head of the Geomagnetism and Geophysical Exploration Department of the Institute of Geophysics of the UNAM. She received the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize (2015) awarded by the UNAM. Since 2005 she has been an active member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) since 2008 she has been a member of the Organization for Women in Science for Developing World (OWSD) and she was a member of the "Cowen Award Committee" (2008-2010, 2011-2012 and 2013-2014) of the AGU. She is a member of the scientific party of the Expedition 364-Chicxulub Crater of the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP), that during 2016 carried out the first drilling borehole in the crater in the marine sector.
