个人简介
I graduated in geology with a BSc in Structural geology and a MSc in Georesources. I continued my research career with a PhD in Economic geology, which helped me to get familiar with many subjects related to the study of mineral deposits (i.e. geochemistry, mineralogy, etc.) and with the analytical techniques used in mineral characterization. During my research activity I had the chance to take part to exploration campaigns in Alaska and Brazil, and I also learned to use different laboratory-based analytical techniques applied to ore characterization such as XRD, ICP-AES, SEM-EDS, EPMA, TGA, LA-ICP-MS, TEM and Automated Mineralogical analytical systems. I know how to work in a laboratory environment and I am aware of the general rules to work in security. Being involved also in sample preparation, I have extensive knowledge of the basic steps in sample preparation and of all the procedures used to avoid the sample contamination.
During my post-doc contracts, I collaborated with several companies (Doyon Ltd., Alaska; ZEISS Ltd., UK; TESCAN, CR), Universities (Camborne School of Mines, UK; University of Liège, Be; Lubambashi University, DRC; University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Research Centres (Natural History Museum, UK).
As a scientist I had the opportunity to disclose the results of my research taking part to many international conferences, which also helped me to develop my network (researchers, professors and professionals) in the Economic Geology field.
Currently, I have a position as researcher at the Earth Science department of the University of Turin (Italy) where I also hold two courses in Georesources and Geomaterials of the MSc degree in Applied Geology . Prior to this, I was employed as contract lecturer at University of Turin (Italy) for the course of Georesources for the MSc degree of Natural Science.
In 2017 I had a position as post-doc researcher at the Natural History Museum (NHM) London, on a project funded by the European Community under the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships. The project (named GOSSAN) was aimed to investigate the concentration, structural position, cationic exchange and economic potential of Fe-oxy-hydroxides from different types of Supergene Ore Deposits (i.e. Ni-Co laterite, bauxite, supergene nonsulphide Zn deposits) as an unconventional source of “Critical and Base Elements” (mostly Co, Ni, Sc, Ge, Zn, Pb...). Prior to the above position I was employed at NHM (London) as Post doc research assistent, investigating the capabilities of Automated Mineralogy systems (Mineralogic, ZEISS Ltd.) for ore characterization.
I have also collaborated in a private consultancy for a mining company: the job consisted in the characterization and quantification of a Zn-Pb nonsulphide ore deposits by using XRD, SEM-EDS, EPMA and Automated Mineralogy.
In 2016/2017 I was awarded with Erasmus Mundus Grant for six months at the University of Liège (Belgium), where I was temporarly employed as research-teaching assistent. The grant was under the EMERALD Master Project (http://www.emerald.ulg.ac.be) and it was designed to give to the young scientists the opportunity to develop their own research by using the GeMMe Lab facilities and, at the same time, disclose their results by conference attendances and publications. The programme also required the researcher to spend 6 hours a week teaching in lectures provided by the Master course. As required, hence, I was involved in the Mineral Resources course by giving lectures on ore deposit genesis and mineral applications and on SEM-EDS based analytical techniques for ore characterization. As extra teaching activity, I also provided support to the students during the lab classes on Optical Microscopy. My duties covered different operations: preparation of the lab facilities, guidance and support during the execution of mineral characterization under reflected light microscopy and assessment of the student performances during the lab sessions and during final presentation. The Liège experience also led me to collaborate actively in a PhD project held by the University of Lubumbashi (DRC), on Cobalt recovery from Katanga Copperbelt Mineralization. In the past 5 years I gave several lectures on the subject of the application of Analytical techniques finalized to Ore Characterization. Lately I have also collaborated at the NHM as supervisor of a Master thesis for a student in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in a project on Ni(Co)-laterite deposit of Santa Fe’. Currently I collaborate with the University of Naples, giving my contribute to Masters and PhD students in Georesources and Economic Geology.
