Lecia L. Pewe

I've worked in the basic research field of viral immunology for the last 25 years at the University of Iowa. I was the lab manager for Dr. Stanley Perlman from 1994-2008 studying the immune-mediated aspect of Multiple Sclerosis in the mouse model using the coronavirus, MHV-JHM. In 2003 there was a new virus spreading in Asia. Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a viral respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus, called SARS-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV). The Perlman lab re-focused our efforts to help understand this virus based our knowledge of coronaviruses. Currently, I am the lab manager in Dr. John T Harty's immunology lab studying CD8 T-cell memory. The lab's focus is to understand and support improvements to vaccination approaches for Malaria and Influenza.
