Michael L. Reed

Michael L. Reed (M’80–SM’99) received the B.S. and M.Eng. degrees in electrical engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University. He has held appointments with Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Virginia, the University of Twente, ETH Zürich, and Albert Ludwigs Universität, Freiburg. He was the Founder of Setagon, Inc., a biomedical device startup company developing microfabricated drug and gene delivery systems that was acquired by Medtronic in 2007. He is currently a Professor and the Associate Dean of the Sichuan University–Pittsburgh Institute, Chengdu, China. His research interests center around microfabrication and nanofabrication technologies, and microsystems applications. He holds 17 issued patents related to microsystems technology and microfabricated medical devices. He has authored the textbook Applied Introductory Circuit Analysis for Electrical and Computer Engineers (Prentice Hall, 1998) and approximately 130 research publications. He is a recipient of the Hertz Foundation Prize and the Presidential Young Investigator Award, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics. He was the Technical Chairman of the 1995 IEEE International Workshop on MEMS, and the General Chairman of the 1996 Workshop. He also organized the 1996 Materials Research Society Symposium on Materials in Microsystems, and is an Editor of Sensors and Materials.
