L. Brandon Shaw received the M.S. degree in physics and the Ph.D. degree in engineering science from the University of South Florida, Tampa, in 1990 and 1994, respectively.
He is currently a Research Physicist with the Infrared Materials Group, Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC, where he is engaged in research of rare-earth-doped IR glasses and fibers for mid-IR lasers, nonlinear properties of IR fibers, modeling and characterization of IR glass photonic bandgap and photonic crystal fiber, and optical properties of ceramic laser materials. He is the author or coauthor of more than 25 published papers, 50 presentations, and one book chapter. He is the holder of 11 patents.
Dr. Shaw was the recipient of the Alan Berman Publication Award and the Edison Patent Award.
