Kyoungho Lee

With more than 20 years of experience in the field, I have been a Director with Division of Population Health Research, National Institute of Health (NIH), Korea Control Disease and Prevention Agency (KCDA) since 2021. I am conducting a cohort study of Koreans over 40 years of age at the NIH. The established cohort is about 230,000, and data have been collected and followed up from 2002 to the present (2023) and provided to Korean researchers. My main research focus is being carried out to prevent the occurrence of chronic diseases and to identify the cause. I had been a Principal professional with Samsung Health Research Institute, Samsung Electronics from 2011 to 2022. In this role, I serve as the team lead, training employees and researchers in industrial and environmental health fields. Prior to obtaining this position, I worked in a research fellowship for risk assessment for environmental and occupational fields with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology from 2010 to 2011. From 2001 to 2010, I was a senior researcher for the Seoul National University Medical Research Center, serving as a lecturer with the school from 2001 to 2006. I also worked as a lecturer with Dongduk Women’s University and Elji University in 2008, as well as with Korea University from 2007 to 2008. I began my career at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology, obtaining a BS in engineering in 1998. I went on to earn an MPH from the Seoul National University Graduate School of Public Health in 2001, and a Ph.D. in Preventative Medicine from the Seoul National University College of Medicine in 2007. My thesis was entitled, "A Nested Case-Control Study on the Association of Urinary Biomarkers and Breast cancer in the Shanghai Women’s Cohort" from US NCI/NIH research project. And I have contributed 48 articles to peer-reviewed journals pertaining to his areas of expertise. My recent contributions include "Human exposure assessment of airborne pollutants for residents in Gwangyang city near industrial plants (I)," "Indoor Levels of VOCs and HCHO emitted from Emission Sources at Elderly Care Centers" and "Comparison of biomarker levels of heavy metals and volatile organic compounds between populations living in the industrial complex and residential areas." Additionally, I have presented at a wide range of conferences, including the 23rd International Conference on Epidemiology in Occupational Health(EPICOH) and American Association for Cancer Research(AACR) Annual Meeting. My presentation topics have included "Alterations of clinical indicators on pre and post-exercise in obese workers" and "Hematological cancer incidence among semiconductor workers." In recognition of my contributions to the field of academia, I was selected as the recipient of the Best Poster Award at the 2nd East Asia Conference of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology. Since November 9, 2017, I have been included in Marquis Who’s Who.
