Profile
Kato Francis is a Ugandan national. Currently he is a Researcher at the Department of Social work and Social Administration, Makerere University. Francis has experience working with diverse aspects of child welfare, child protection, care reform, case management, and reintegration as well as issue of disability. He is a Trainer in migration health and blends the academia, policy and practice. He has supported research on children for years. iBetween 2017 and 2019, supported in coordinating a randomised controlled trial testing the effect of a parenting program on reintegration outcomes for children from child care institutional reunifying with their families and communities under the Keeping Children in Healthy and Protective Families (KCHPF) project. Towards the end of 2019, he supported Development Pathways, Uganda's Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development to implement the National Survey on the cost of Living with a disability in Uganda in a supervisory role. He has worked on issues of gender-based violence response and prevention, and child protection services in both humanitarian and development contexts. In 2018, Francis supported the World Bank under the Development Response to Displacement Impacts Project (DRDIP) in a short-term consultant position to assess Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response and Child Protection Services in 11 Refugee Hosting Districts in Uganda. He has keen interest in child and adolescent health; migration and refugee health, child protection; Alternative care and care leaving, as well as older person’s health and wellbeing. He holds a Master’s of Science in Social Work and Human Rights from the University of Gothenburg and a Bachelors in Social Work and Social Administration from Makerere University.
