K Jain

Kanti Jain (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and solid state physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1975. He is the President and Founder of Anvik Corporation, Hawthorne, NY. From 1979 to 1988, he was with IBM. At the IBM Almaden Research Center (1979–1983), he pioneered the technology of excimer laser lithography, for which he received two Outstanding Innovation Awards from IBM and which is now used worldwide in semiconductor chip manufacturing. From 1983 to 1986, he was a Senior Manager and Senior Scientist at the IBM Watson Research Center. He also served with IBM's Corporate Technical Committee at its Corporate Headquarters during 1986–1988. From 1977 to 1979, he worked at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, where he developed ultraviolet metal-vapor lasers. During 1989–1991, he was at Raychem Corporation where, as Director of Technology Development in Advanced Packaging Systems, he managed development of multichip module technology. During 1975–1977, he was at the Massachussetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, as a Postdoctoral Fellow, conducting research in nonlinear optics. He holds 53 patents (48 issued or allowed, five pending) and has published over 50 papers in microlithography, optics, lasers, organic materials, and solid state-physics. He is the author of the book Excimer Laser Lithography (Bellingham, WA: SPIE, 1990). Dr. Jain is a Fellow and former Member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of SPIE and a Fellow of OSA.
