Our goal is to control contamination of food and feed crops such as maize, cottonseed, peanut and tree nuts with aflatoxin, a potent carcinogen, caused by Aspergillus flavus. We use a multidisciplinary approach to eliminate aflatoxin contamination that includes biocontrol, and development of host resistance through molecular breeding to inhibit fungal growth and toxin biosynthesis. We also develop detection methods to separate contaminated products in storage to improve food and feed safety.
