His work in haemodynamics has included the analysis of the wave nature of flow in the arteries, the haemodynamics of the heart and the coupling of flow from the heart to the arteries, and the experimental and theoretical study of the mechanics of the deep veins of the calf. His work in connective tissue mechanics has included study of the deformation of the red-blood cell membrane, the behaviour of poroelastic tissue and the physicochemical properties of elastin.
