个人简介
Kevin P. Conway, PhD, is a nationally recognized expert in the epidemiology and measurement of substance use, addiction, and comorbid mental-health conditions. The unifying theme across Dr. Conway’s research is the application of epidemiologic and quantitative methods to elucidate the etiology of substance use and mental health disorders through the identification of potent but malleable risk factors.
Currently, Dr. Conway is Staff Scientist in the Genetic Epidemiology Research Branch in the Intramural Program (IRP) at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Prior to joining the NIMH IRP in July of 2020, Dr. Conway was Senior Behavioral Health Scientist at RTI International, where he was Contact Multiple Principal Investigator for the Data Coordinating Center of the HEALing Communities Study (HCS), funded ($26MM) by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). The HCS is a multi-site trial evaluating the impact of the Communities That HEAL intervention on reducing opioid overdose death within 67 communities in Kentucky, Massachusetts, New York, and Ohio. Before joining RTI in 2017, Dr. Conway held increasingly senior positions at NIDA. As Deputy Director of NIDA’s Division of Epidemiology, Services, and Prevention Research (2008-2017), he provided scientific and managerial leadership and direction of a $265MM (FY16) portfolio of grants and contracts, identified scientific topics in need of strategic development, influenced research initiatives and funding decisions, cultivated the careers of future leaders in science and public health, and represented the Division and Institute in front of national and international audiences. During his tenure at NIDA, Dr. Conway informed the design and implementation of several national epidemiologic research efforts including the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study (a nationally representative longitudinal cohort study of tobacco-product use), the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study (a 21-site cohort study of the link between substance use and brain development), the NIH Toolbox (a resource for measuring neurobehavioral constructs), and the PhenX Toolkit (a resource for measuring common domains related to substance use and health).
Dr. Conway is the author/co-author of over 90 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, including numerous papers in high-impact journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, the American Journal of Psychiatry, Archives of General Psychiatry, and the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is a Fellow of the American Psychopathological Association and is the recipient of more than 25 awards for leadership in research, including the NIH Director’s Award of Merit, the NIDA Director’s Award of Merit, the Leveraging Collaboration Award from FDA, and the Contracting Officer’s Representative of the Year Award from the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
