My main interest is in the causes and consequences of the spatial and temporal spread of infectious pathogens. In terms of causes, I study mechanisms of human mobility in discrete space and in particular, along the global air transportation network. To study the consequences of mobility on public health, I use large systems of ordinary differential equations or continuous time Markov chains, making up so-called metapopulation disease models.
