Josep Ferrè-Borrull received the Physics degree in 1994, the B.Sc. degree in 1996, and the Ph.D. degree in 1998, all from the University of Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain. His doctoral thesis was in the field of optical image processing. His postdoctoral experience was focused on the characterization of nanoroughness of surfaces in high-quality optical components with the Fraunhofer Institute, Jena, Germany, and with the ENEA, Rome, Italy. In 2004, he joined the Rovira i Virgili University, Tarragona, Spain; since then, he has been involved in research on the framework of the activities of the Nanoelectronic and Photonics Group, including the development of technologies for the fabrication of nanoporous materials and their applications to energy, health, and environment, and especially in the numerical modeling of the interaction of light with such materials and devices.
