My research team investigates the origin of sedimentary deposits, especially those deposited in deep-marine environments. Our research approach focusses on physical experiments that investigate
erosion, transport, and deposition of sediment by
water. The experimental results are translated to
genetic models for the sedimentary rock record. The
full range of relevant temporal and spatial scales is
covered, from microsecond scales of fluid turbulence,
to millions of years associated with continentalmargin development. The primary inspiration for research questions is derived from deposits, which are studied in onshore outcrops, on the seafloor, and in subsurface and submarine core sites.
