My research explores the regulation of resource allocation between the genetically-determined fetal drive for growth and the maternal nutrient requirements to support pregnancy. Currently, I am assessing the impact of genetically-induced placental endocrine malfunction on maternal metabolism during and following pregnancy, and conceptus growth. I hope these studies might shed light on why women develop gestational diabetes and type 2 diabetes in later motherhood.
