J. R. Fisher

J. Richard Fisher (M’81) was born in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, in 1943. He received the B.S. degree in physics from Penn State University, State College, PA, USA, in 1965, and the Ph.D. degree in astronomy from the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA, in 1972. He joined the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), Green Bank, WV, USA, as a Scientific Staff. He has held various positions such as the Head of the Electronics Division, the Site Director, and the Project Manager of several instrumentation projects. In 1978, he took leave from NRAO with the Division of Radio Physics, CSIRO, Australia, and the Raman Research Institute, Bengaluru, India. He moved to the Charlottesvile, VA Offices of NRAO in 2005, where he held the position of Chief Technologist until 2012. He is currently the Scientist Emeritus with NRAO. His current research interests include cosmology, antenna design, and signal processing.
