Prof. Goldman founded several professional organizations promoting research and collaboration in blood disorders and transplantation including the European Haematology Association (EHA) and the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT). He was president of both and during 1998–2002 was Chairperson of the International Bone Marrow transplant Registry (IBMTR). In 1980, along with Prof. Gale he founded Bone Marrow Transplantation. John served on the editorial boards of many other journals including the International Journal of Hematology.
