The research activity is focused on the pathophysiological study of anaemia, especially on molecular and genetic mechanisms of hereditary anaemias due to red blood cell (RBC) defects and erythropoietic disorders. Principal Investigator (PI) of more than 30 research projects on RBC enzymopathies (Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and Pyruvate kinase deficiencis), sickle-cell disease and thalassaemia, and more recently hereditary membranopathies.
