Joao Guerra holds a Ph.D. (2011) and a Master degree (2005) in Social Sciences from ICS/UL – Social Sciences Institute of Lisbon University, and a degree in Sociology and Planning from ISCTE/IUL – University Institute of Lisbon (1998). Presently he is a researcher in the area of Environmental Justice and sustainability. He is a member of OBSERVA - Observatory of Environment and Society, and GI ATS – Research Group in Environment, Territory, and Society. Since 1998 he carried out several research projects focused on environmental issues and their interactions with society: governance, civic participation, sustainable development, environmental education, etc. He is also the author and co-author of many articles and books on those issues of environment and civic participation.
