Jitrayut Jitonnom was born in 1983 in Phichit City, Thailand. He has Ph.D. and B.Sc. degrees in Chemistry from Chiang Mai University, Thailand. From 2008-2009, he was a visiting student in the group of Prof. Adrian Mulholland at the University of Bristol through the Thai Doctoral Degree Sandwich Program (CHE-PhD-SW). His research interests lie in the area of computational and theoretical chemistry of enzymes, in particular carbohydrate-active enzymes such as chitinase B. These enzymes have relevance to such areas as biofuel, food, and drug design. There is a strong emphasis on mechanistic studies which involve a range of computational techniques, in particular QM/MM and DFT. Jitonnom was the recipient of the Thailand Research Fund scholarship of Thailand.
