Bio
Jim McElwaine received the M.A., M.Math., and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from the Cambridge University, Cambridge, U.K., in 1992, 1993, and 1996, respectively.
He was with Japan for 5 years, where he was involved in snow avalanches. Since 2013, he has been a Professor of Geohazards with the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Durham, Durham, U.K. He is also a Senior Scientist with the Planetary Science Institute, Tucson, AZ, USA, where he is involved in surface processes on other planetary bodies. His current research interests include geophysical flows as well as tackling more fundamental problems in granular and fluid mechanics.
