Dr. Jia-You Fang was born at Jun. 17, 1968 in Taipei City. He is now a Professor in the Graduate Institute at Chang Gung University in Taiwan. In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate Institute of Health Industrial Technology, Chang Gung University of Science and Technology and Department of Anesthesiology, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. He is currently a Visiting Professor in King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. Prior to this, he was the Dean and Chair Professor of College of Human Ecology at Chang Gung University of Science and Technology from 2010 to 2015. Over the past 25 years, he and his team have made outstanding contributions to the understanding of drug delivery, pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, nanomedicine, and cosmetology.
Not only by means of providing top-quality academic research in the Pharmaceutics Laboratory of Chang Gung University, but also by the many educational activities for the pharmaceutical, medicinal professionals and trainees, that have expanded the knowledge and management skills that come up from their research, which is extremely translational and oriented toward industrial and clinical practice. Examples of this are the impact of low-energy ablative laser on drug absorption enhancement, a specific technique for assisting drug permeation via skin that emerged from their work, and which is nowadays a popular enhancement strategy for topical administration. He also had written a review for laser-assisted drug permeation. Another example is the passive targeting of nanoparticles to lungs, an area where Dr. Fang and his team have made seminal and outstanding contributions that have changed the view on the therapy of acute lung injury. Moreover, Dr. Fang and his research group have greatly contributed to increase the availability of anti-alopecia drugs for hair follicle targeting, by means of the design of antibody-conjugated lipid nanocarriers. Some recent studies by the team of Dr. Fang is to investigate the impact of codrugs on skin barrier breakthrough and the subsequent drug absorption enhancement. This study is essential to understand the mechanisms of codrug permeation into skin and the extension of therapeutic index.
His contributions add up to 320 peer-review articles, more than 10000 citations and H index of 54. He has established many international collaborations for advanced research, including University of California, San Diego (laser-assisted topical drug delivery), University of California, Los Angeles (antibacterial nanocarriers), Kyung Hee University (development of capsaicin hydrogel patch for clinical trial), and King Saud University (transdermal drug delivery and nanomedicine). Dr. Fang is the editorial board member of 18 scientific journals and the reviewer of 70 more journals. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Drug Delivery Letters and the Regional Editor of Current Drug Therapy.
