Jeffrey Rahn

Jeff Rahn received the B.Sc. degree in physics from Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, USA, in 1991, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz, CA, USA, in 1998. His thesis, performed at Deutsche Electronen Synchrotron, Hamburg, Germany, was focused on the internal structure of the proton. In 1998, his research focused on X-ray detectors at Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center. In 2001, he joined Big Bear Networks, developing electronic dispersion compensation ASICs for 10-GB/s receivers running over single mode and multimode fibers. In 2005, Big Bear was acquired by Infinera. During his time at Infinera, he defined optical architecture for several generations of long-haul networking gear, specifically the optical and signal processing framework and integration. Since 2019, he has been with Facebook, defining the architecture for their datacenter and long-haul networks. He has more than 50 journal and conference publications, and has been awarded 29 patents.
