Career Trajectory
Bio
Jeffrey Y. Pan (Member, IEEE) received the Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA in 1987, 1987, and 1991, respectively.
Since 1991, he has been with Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Park, IL. He is currently Associate Research Fellow and Project Leader of the Automation Engineering group within the Global Pharmaceutical Research and Development Division. He has led both the development of Micro Fluid Circuit technologies for the clinical in vitro diagnostics marketplace as well as the creation of novel automated equipment designed to expedite drug discovery. His group has transferred systems and/or licensed technology to half a dozen companies in the United States and abroad. He has eight issued and three pending U.S. patents. His previous research interests have included optical and acoustic signal processing devices and acoustic techniques for measuring the mechanical properties of thin polymer films. His current research involves biomedical microelectromechanical systems (bioMEMS) for research laboratory applications.
Dr. Pan is a member of Sigma Xi. In 2002, he was a corecipient of an RD100 Award for his work on an Automated Crystal Transport, Orientation, and Retrieval (ACTOR) system for protein crystallography use.
