Janet Dwyer

Janet is an experienced policy analyst and expert on rural policies in Europe and the UK, working to promote sustainability and resilience in agriculture and rural development. She was a dynamic and successful Director of the Countryside and Community Research Institute from 2013-2021, and was elected President of the UK Agricultural Economics Society in 2021-22, reflecting her 35 years' work in this field. Her research uses mixed and qualitative methods and she is experienced in multi-actor and trans-disciplinary work including participatory evaluation and co-learning approaches. She has in-depth knowledge of UK and European farming, environmental and rural development policies, policies for sustainable land management and rural innovation, including LEADER. She is well-known in policy and practice circles, has an established reputation for impactful, applied research and has been awarded membership of the Academie d'Agriculture, France and the Association of Royal Agricultural Societies, UK. Janet was honoured with an OBE in 2022 for her services to rural research.
