His research focuses on genetics, biomarkers and novel therapies for lung fibrosis, sarcoidosis and ultra-rare ILD such as lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) and pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP). Jan Grutters has been/is supervisor of more than 20 PhD students, published over 200 papers in international scientific journals and books, and is regularly invited as speaker and/or chairman at national and international medical/scientific congresses, seminars and meetings. Besides he is the chairman of the Section of ILD of the Dutch Association of Physicians in Chest Medicine and Tuberculosis (NVALT), chairman of the Professor Swierenga Foundation, and member of numerous national and international scientific and medical advisory boards.
