My research focuses on the relationships, both short- and long-term, between past peoples and plants – the area of archaeology referred to as ‘Archaeobotany’. I have used macro-botanical remains recovered from excavations across the Mediterranean as my primary data, and studied these relationships in a number of different social settings, ranging from Palaeolithic hunter-gatherers to Roman farmers and late-medieval colonizers of the Canary Islands.
