Joseph Song-Manguelle is a Senior Electrification Technologist with Shell to accelerate electrification within Shell and Shell Power customers.
He spent 2 years as a Distinguished R&D Staff at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Knoxville, Tennessee, USA, since 2021, developing R&D projects for high-power electronic applications at the US National Transportation Research Center.
He spent 9 years with ExxonMobil based in Houston, TX, as Senior Electrical Engineer and Subject Matter Expert for VFDs, where he managed and led technology qualification of subsea high-power electrical components (subsea VFD and motors, subsea UPS systems, subsea transformers, cables, and connectors) from different manufacturers. He also led the design, commissioning and troubleshooting of electrical systems of hydro-carbon processing plants in Russia, Papua New Guinea, and Equatorial Guinea. Prior to that, he spent 8 years with General Electric, where he held several engineering positions with GE Global Research and GE Oil and Gas in Germany, France and Niskayuna, NY. He was involved in the design of torsional vibration control systems with megawatt range VFDs, as well as the development of HVDC transmission and distribution systems for future long tieback subsea applications.
Joseph is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Quebec in Trois-Rivieres, Canada, where he is co-supervising Master's and Ph.D. students. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in pedagogical sciences and electrical engineering from ENSET (Ecole Normale Supérieure d'Enseignement Technique), the University of Douala, Cameroon in 1995 and 1997, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2004.
