Description of Research Expertise
Dr. Reilly conducts translational patient-oriented research in critical care medicine aimed at understanding clinical and molecular risk factors for sepsis and the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). He collaborates with other members of the faculty to conduct prospective cohort studies of critically ill patients with severe sepsis and acute trauma. Currently, his research focuses on understanding a novel risk factors for ARDS in the setting of trauma and severe sepsis, including ABO blood type A and chronic exposure to ambient air pollutants. His ultimate goal is to provide mechanistic insights into critical illness that can be translated to improved care for patients suffering from sepsis and ARDS.
