Jean Larour

J. Larour was born in Paris, France, in 1952. He received the M.S. degree in physics from Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris, in 1976, and the Ph.D. degree in excess electron mobility in liquid gases from Pierre and Marie Curie University, Paris, in 1986. He joined the Dense Plasma Laboratory, French Research Council Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Pierre and Marie Curie University, in 1976, and was the Head of the Dense Plasma Laboratory from 1991 to 1994. His interests were first on high-density molecular gases and dielectric fluids and on optical observation of Mott transition in supercritical cesium vapor. He specialized in plasma pinches in fast high-current discharges, in gas-embedded Z-pinch, and in X-pinch. Since 1995, he has been with the Laboratoire de Physique des Plasmas, CNRS, École Polytechnique, Palaiseau, France, where he is involved in X-pinches, capillary discharges, X-ray diagnostics, pulse-power techniques, and more recently on crossed-field magnetically insulated line oscillator source of high-power microwaves and on plasma laboratory astrophysics.
