Jorge H Calvo

Dr Jorge Hugo Calvo has a University degree in Veterinary Science, as well as a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Zaragoza since 2000. He subsequently received postdoctoral training at the Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones agrarias (INIA), and in 2003 he held a contract "Doctor INIA/CCAA" at CITA. From 2008, he has a permanent position as ARAID researcher at CITA, and is the Director of the animal molecular lab at CITA from 2006. His research is focused in the application of genomic tools in animal science, mainly in ruminants, including animal breeding, nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics, and also in animal health. His group has International collaborations with other leading groups and institutes as INRA or Tuffs University, and it is also outstanding that they have been involved in the International Sheep Genomics Consortium (https://www.sheephapmap.org/hapmap.php). In summary, he has published his research findings in 100 peer-reviewed journals, and 135 Scientific Conference Proceedings. His papers have 2029 citations (h-index: 24) Some of them, involved with nutrigenomic studies, application of genomic tools in reproduction or more recently in metagenomics studies applied to reproduction success. He has been involved in 61 projects being in 17 the project coordinator. Two of the international projects were from H2020 program, being in one of them the coordinator of one of the partners (POCTEFA call). Finally, he has been also involved in 41 contracts with livestock companies (being in 29 of them the coordinator) to transfer results of research to industry and improve animal efficiency and resilience. In this sense, 4 patents have been registered. Regarding to PhD and postdoc supervision, 5 doctoral thesis and three postdoctoral contracts associated to projects were supervised, as well as more than 10 PhD students from different Institutes and countries in short stages. Furthermore, he has also teaching experience in the University of Zaragoza and Lleida in Master and undergraduate courses. Finally, scientific outreach is one of the policies of the group and have a broad experience in the communication and dissemination in national and local media about the results of the research and the importance of research and how society benefit from it.
