My research aims at improving the lives of people in the tropics by using trees to restore landscapes that have been degraded by unsustainable practices. In Malaysia, colleagues and I are working to improve the knowledge on how to restore degraded rain forests. In Burkina Faso, Tanzania, and Kenya we are investigating how trees can be used to improve soils and water resources. I am teaching forest ecology, hydrology and soil science for forestry students.
