Bio
I discovered my interest on this area during my early years as an engineering student, when I realised that the limitations to advanced designs do not reside in our brains but in the properties of existing materials and what we are able to produce with them. I am passionate about pushing research to the limits of what is considered impossible and I am deeply rewarded when I see the spark of scientific curiosity awaken in the eyes of my students, the researchers of the future.
She believes that welding is the most cost-effective and eco-friendly solution for high-performance structural an non-structural polymer composite assemblies. In fact, composite welding is a key technology for enabling affordable high-volume production of the polymer composite aircraft of the future, which she envisions to be composed of fast-produced modular structures rapidly welded to each other. Aiming at facilitating the use of composite welding by industry, her research has a three-fold focus:
Development of smart composite welding processes
Generating understanding on the mechanical performance of composite welded joints
Expanding the applicability of composite welding (e.g. welding of dissimilar materials)
