Helen Price graduated with a BSc Hons degree in Applied Zoology from University of Leeds and a PhD in Molecular Parasitology from Bangor University. She worked as a researcher at the Institute for Cancer Researcher, Imperial College London and University of York before being appointed in her first academic position at Keele University, UK in 2013. She was promoted to Professor of Parasitology in 2022. Helen’s research focuses on the neglected skin disease, cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL), which is caused by infection with the protozoan parasite Leishmania spp. Her lab-based research focuses on the cell biology of Leishmania, validation of drug targets and the development of novel treatments using magnetic nanotechnology and natural products. Helen also co-leads the ECLIPSE programme with medical anthropologist Professor Lisa Dikomitis (University of Kent/KMMS). ECLIPSE is a 5-year NIHR-funded interdisciplinary applied healthcare programme with a team of over 60 people across four continents. The aims of ECLIPSE are to reduce stigma and improve the patient journey for people living with CL through the development of community-based interventions.
