Career Trajectory
Bio
Hanaa Hegab received a PhD in Engineering from the University of South Australia in 2017. She was appointed as a research fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Monash University, Australia (2017–2020) in industry-related projects to valorize different industrial wastes. Currently, she is a scientist in the Chemical Engineering Department, at Khalifa University (2021), which enables her to work on practical applications to solve many environmental and industrial challenges in the UAE. Her research focuses on preparing novel multi-functionalized 2D materials-based biodegradable green polymeric membranes for different environmental applications, in addition to the innovation of specific types of nanomaterials for sustainable water desalination and resources recovery applications, oil/water separation, superior fouling resistance, and wastewater treatment. She has 50 peer-reviewed publications, including 2 US patents with > 2800 citations (h-index 19 and i-10-index 23). She is involved in several Australian projects on membranes, wastewater treatment, and feasibility studies. She has participated in the supervision of over 14 undergraduate and postgraduate students in Australia and the UAE.
She received several awards, including the Industry Mentoring Network in STEM (IMNIS) in Australia, the WaterRA Associate Student award, and the best thesis poster prize award from NBE Colloquium, University of South Australia, Australia.
