My career in research started in areas of cancer biology (nucleoside transport and multidrug resistance), drug discovery, topical formulation and GMP scale-up of health supplements (transdermal delivery), before moving onto R&D in feed additives (enzyme chemistry and carotenoid nanotechnology delivery). Be they projects involving molecular biology, analytical chemistry, in vivo studies or Phase I/II clinical trials, commercialisation has always been our intended end-point. I freelanced as a consultant at one point, helping companies in areas such as Research Project Management, Regulatory Affairs, GMP and GCP. I had also lectured with MDIS under the University of Bradford’s Bachelor of Science (Hons) programme. Senior management positions held previously were in biotech, chemical and consulting firms, including Lynk Biotech, MediLynk, DynaLynk Pharma, Ben Apex, Rhapsody Biologics and the Kemin Industries. Before assuming my current role as Director of Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Applied Science (ASC) in Jan 2019, I was overseeing 13 technical domains at the school. My current role enables me to empower my teams to move towards skills-based and project-based pedagogies in education and training. Externally-funded industry and research projects have been leveraged to offer authentic and exciting learning to both staff and students. My primary interest continues to be in molecular and nano technologies, and their application across multi-disciplinary areas - in food security and preventive healthcare, as well as in areas of urban sustainability.
