My current research is devoted to Optical Technologies and Materials for sustainable construction and building.
Optical properties of construction materials are considered for research within two different areas:
- Development of innovative materials with advanced functionalities based on their optical properties. As an example, a thermocromic mortar has been developed for façade coatings to improve energy efficiency and decrease environmental impact of buildings. At this moment, novel approaches based on nanotechnology are under development to improve the mortar performance.
- Characterization of the optical response of construction materials by UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometry, both in-situ and in the laboratory. Optical properties are analyzed to assess their influence on energy efficiency and environmental impact of buildings and urban areas, as well as for conservation of cultural heritage.
