Glaucia Maria Machado-Santelli

Graduated in Biological Sciences at the University of São Paulo, Master, and PhD in Biology / Genetics at the University of São Paulo. She is currently a senior professor at the University of São Paulo, in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology, at the Biomedical Sciences Institute. She has experience in Cellular and Molecular Biology, with an emphasis on Tumor Cell Biology. She contributed to the implantation of short-term and immortalized cell culture techniques, both in 2D and 3D environments, studying cell proliferation, differentiation and deaths. The main objectives are the evaluation of the anti-cancer therapeutic potential of new compounds of marine origin. She has been dedicated to the study of the mechanisms of formation of micronuclei, to the study of aneuploidy and its significance in the process of tumorigenesis and gene amplification both in tumors and in polygene chromosomes of Rhynchosciara americana. She dedicated herself to researching relevant aspects in the biology of this organism, focusing on the morphological and molecular correlation in the salivary gland and ovary development. She contributed greatly to the dissemination of confocal laser scanning microscopy in the country, being highly active in this area.
