Giovanni Anobile

In 2009 I graduated in Experimental Psychology at University of Florence with an experimental thesis on the role of visual attention in numerosity perception. I then continued my research activity at University of Florence with a PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience and Cognitive Sciences, completed in 2014. I have also attended a specialization school (four years) in child psychodiagnostics and rehabilitation planning. After my PhD, I worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the CNR in Pisa, the University of Florence and the University of Pisa. In 2016 I won a three-year grant from the National Health System in which I investigated the cognitive and perceptual basis of developmental dyscalculia. During this period, I worked as researcher and psychologist at the Stella Maris Foundation (Pisa). In 2017 I achieved the National Scientific Qualification for associate Professor in General Psychology, Psychobiology and Psychometrics (M-PSI/02). In 2020 I won a position as researcher at University of Florence (M-PSI/02, Psychobiology and Physiological Psychology). Overall, during my research activity, I have carried out behavioural experiments with children, infants and adult subjects, often using psychophysical and neuropsychological techniques at the same time. Throughout collaborations with clinical institutions (mainly Stella Maris Foundation in Pisa) I also had the opportunity to apply those methodologies with patients with neurodevelopmental deficits such as preterm children, children with autistic disorder and specific learning disabilities (dyscalculia). My research activity has mainly focused on the investigation of the factors involved in numerical cognition and in numerosity, space and time perception with a special interest on how these interact with the development of cognitive skills such as arithmetic. In the last years, my interest has expanded to the study of the interaction between action and perception. Scopus metrics: I am currently (January-2022) author of 40 articles cited 1169 times (H-index 16).
