Gaurav Sharma, PhD, MBA, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He earned a B.Sc. in biological sciences, an M.Sc. in biotechnology, followed by a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences. He also earned an MBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology. His Ph.D. from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) utilized NMR and LCMS metabolomics to characterize and elucidate the drug response of anticancer formulations. Dr. Sharma performed postdoctoral research in intermediary metabolism and metabolic imaging at the Advanced Imaging Research Center at the UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Sharma is a recipient of predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the American Heart Association (AHA), respectively. He is currently serving as a member of the editorial boards for several journals, including Journal of Translational Medicine; Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine; BMC Cardiovascular Disorders; BMC Cancer; PeerJ; Heliyon and Medicine. He also served as an ad hoc peer reviewer for more than 35 international peer reviewed and indexed scientific journals. Dr. Sharma’s research interest is to understand the role of altered metabolic states in biological systems, including cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. This research is tightly integrated with clinical activities in cardiothoracic surgery, allowing for seamless possibilities to assess the applicability of findings in patients and assist cardiothoracic surgeons in clinical decision making.
