Georges Safi

Marine biologist specialized in the assessment of Good Environmental Status of marine ecosystems using health indicators derived from trophic models. After several years working on the application of the "Food webs" descriptor of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive in Europe, I was recruited by France Energies Marines to develop the theme "Ecosystem Approach to ORE". Therefore, my main function is to support the ORE sector in France to acquire management tools offering a holistic vision of the marine ecosystems in which the ORE arrays are integrated. The trophic tools used have the potential to assess the cumulative impacts of different activities at sea, before and after the integration of ORE. Trophic models can also be coupled with other tools or approaches to create a balanced view between the assessment of environmental impacts and socio-economic impacts of ORE. All these structuring paths of the ecosystem approach are investigated with the team of modelers, geographers and sociologists with whom I am currently collaborating.
