Bio
Giancarlo Lombardi (Member, IEEE) was born in Naples, Italy, in December 1971. He received the M.Sc. degree (cum laude) in telecom engineering from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 1994, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Trieste, Trieste, Italy, in 1998. From 1990 to 1994, he was a Student at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (SSSUP), Pisa. From 1995 to 1998, he was at Telit, Trieste, Italy, where he carried out experimentation and consulting about indoor broadband communications. From 1996 to 1999, he worked at modeling and simulation of the indoor propagation channel with the WINLAB, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, USA, and with the University of Bologna and the Ugo Bordoni Foundation, Bologna, Italy. In 2000, he was employed at Siemens AG, Bocholt, NRW, Germany, for research in the HIPERLAN candidate standard for WLAN. Since 2000, he has been a Patent Examiner at the European Patent Office in video compression and transmission (as a Chief Examiner from 2008 to 2012). In 2022, he Published the proof for the solution of Malfatti Marble Problem, posed in 1803. His main research interests include radio channel characterization and modeling for mobile and satellite communications and, starting in 1992 as a M.Sc. Student, in microwave circuit stability.
