Career Trajectory
Bio
Fumihiko Kannari (M’95–SM’99) was born in 1958. He received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Keio University, Yokohama, Japan, in 1980, 1882, and 1985, respectively.
During 1984, he was a Research Associate with the Science and Engineering Research Council Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxon, U.K., where he was involved in the development of a multiplexed short-pulse high-power KrF laser system. In 1986, he joined Spectra Technology, Inc., Bellevue, WA, where he performed various theoretical and experimental studies on gaseous electronics for lasers such as rare-gas halide excimer laser. In 1988, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, Keio University, where he is currently a Professor in the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering. He was a Keio Fellow at Downing College, Cambridge University, U.K., during 2000. He is the author or coauthor of more than 150 international papers published in refereed journals in the field of high-power UV lasers, laser material processing, nonlinear optics, laser chaos synchronization, solid-state lasers, ultrafast lasers and quantum optics. His current research interests include control of interaction between ultrafast optical pulses and matters employing pulse shaping technique, such as molecular reaction control in intense laser field, multiphoton excited fluorescence, and spatiotemporal ultrafast plasmon control.
Prof. Kannari is a member of the Optical Society of America, the Japan Society of Applied Physics, the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, and the Laser Society of Japan. He was a Topical Editor of the Applied Optics during 2004–2009.
